Have you ever met some one with a name that is just a little too long? Well, that would be ME of course!

My full name is (take a breath, you’re gonna need it!):

Christie Joy Tennison-Law Cone….(phew- breath out now!)

When I started teaching high school I had to come up with a name that was easier than Mrs. Tennison-Law Cone…so I became Mrs. TLC. Luckily for me my awesome students liked me enough to buy it!

Once I started doing ceramics I decided to stream line this crazy name of mine into just Christie Cone…but I noticed the initials in Christie Joy Tennison-Law Cone are a mirror image of themself! So along came CJTLC- VIOLA

Now you know the story behind my signature. Every piece I make has a CJTLC stamped into it- but the challenge is to remember what all those initials stand for!

I am hauling booty in my studio this week because next week I will be in Costa Rica.

Last time I went I collected plants, and objects and pressed them into oven bake clay to use as stamps when I got home. Such beautiful textures!

I am hoping to do the same this trip and I cannot wait to use the stamps in some new pieces I will be making upon returning…

So this week I am BUSY BUSY BUSY making pieces so I can get some vacation time in.

Shepherd Boy- drying w/ all this "brothers"

Every year the demand for my nativities increases…and I am grateful for that!! I have had to refine my creation process in order to meet the growing demand. Now when I am creating a piece, I cut out and shape all the components I need to make the shepherd, angel, wise men, Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, or even the sheep and then I assemble it.

Something I happily discovered along the way in this new more assembly line creation process is that each piece still retains it’s own character. I am proud that I make all my pieces by hand instead of outsourcing or using a mold….because every piece is truly unique.

This year, I seem to have reached my limit in creating nativities so I’m going to let you in on a little secret: from now on I am going to sell a limited  number of them each year…and when I am out, I am out.

So if you have your heart set on a nativity, be sure to get yours early!!
