Recently I went to see the Chinese Lantern Festival in Dallas. It was not what I had expected but it did remind me of something that I really enjoy and focus on in my ceramics.
At first glance we often miss things.
For instance this giant dragon doesn’t seem all that unusual.

But at closer examination you can see the dragon is made of dishes tied together with string.
Amazing, right?

Or take this dragon piece.

Again, we assume it is just colorful tiles but they are actually made of medicine viles filled with colored liquid. Again, a-maz-ing!

In my pieces I might not trick your eyes but I do take joy in the details like the handles on my mugs or the way I add glaze to my signature.

It’s all in the details after all.
